This exceptional antique George II sterling silver gilt cream jug has an oval shaped form onto an oval shaped, spreading foot.

The cast sterling silver body of this Georgian silver cream jug is embellished with a large floral and foliate festoon, incorporating a scrolling cartouche to the anterior surface.

The cartouche bears a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms* surmounted with a crest depicting a greyhound sejant, collared and lined, all above the motto 'Semper Fidelis' - Always Faithful / Always Loyal.

This fine example of Georgian silverware is fitted with an impressive antique style dolphin/mystical fish decorated handle ornamented with scale decoration.

The impressive oval scrolling shaped base is further ornamented with organic decoration and leaf textures.

This exceptional cream jug retains the original gilding.

Such examples of cast Georgian cream jugs are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

* The marital coat of arms is that of the Smith, Baronet of Sydling St Nicholas in the County of Dorset and Marriott. These armorial bearings commomorate the marriage of Sir John Wyldbore Smith, the 2nd Baronet2 of Sydling St Nicholas in the County of Dorset and Elizabeth Anne Marriott, the second daughter and co-heiress of the Reverend James Marriott, of Horsmonden in the County of Kent.
