Description


This exceptional antique George V English sterling silver inkwell has a bell shaped form to a circular pedestal foot and plain square base.


The body of this Mappin & Webb ink pot is embellished with embossed and chased decorated swags segmented with a rectangular leaf decorated border.


The ornamentation to the body incoprorates a large engraved inverted scalloped bordered vacant cartouche to the anterior and posterior surfaces.


The lower portion of the ink well is encompassed with a water leaf style border.


The upper rim is encircled with an applied bead decorated border.


This antique sterling silver inkwell is fitted with an impressive hinged waisted hallmarked sterling silver cover, incorporating a fluted ornamentation to the lower swept portion.


The cover is further ornamented with further bead and leaf decoration, surmounted with a simplified acorn style finial.


The cover opens to reveal a sunken well and removable glass ink liner.


The foot of this exceptional example of antique silverware is encompassed with futher fluted and leaf decoration, reflecting the designs of the cover.

Condition


This antique Mappin & Webb ink pot is an excellent gauge of silver for its type, excellent quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The embossed and chased decoration is all very sharp.

The hallmarks struck to the surface of the base and interior of the cover are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of silverware.
