Description

This exceptional and rare antique George V English sterling silver inkwell has been realistically modelled in the form of a cat's head emerging from a shoe/boot.

The body of this impressive antique inkwell is embellished with applied details reproducing the shoe's stitching to the vamp, laces and tied knot.

This large silver inkwell is fitted with an impressive hinged cast sterling silver cover realistically modelled in the form of a cat's head.

The cast ornamentation to the cover reflects the cat's fur and anatomical features, and incorporates two coloured dyed inset eyes.

This exceptional and rare inkwell was crafted by the renowned silversmiths S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.

The silver cat cover opens to reveal a circular sunken well and hallmarked liner.

The interior of this exceptional inkwell retains the original gilding.

The sole of the shoe/base bears the original inset oak wood panel to the underside.

Date: 1913

Condition

This antique silver cat inkwell is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cast and applied decoration are very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body, in addition to part hallmarks to the interior are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this rare silver inkwell.
