Description

This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver jewellery box has a serpentine shaped form onto four tapering legs.

The shaped body of this large silver jewellery box is plain and unembellished.

The Edwardian trinket/jewellery box is fitted with a hallmarked hinged serpentine shaped solid silver cover encompassed with an applied tied reed decorated border.

The centre of the cover is embellished with an embossed design depicting two wandering putti* bordered with large floral and foliate branches.

This impressive box is supported by four impressive applied legs embellished with scrolling leaf and floral ornamentation.

The box is fitted with a navy blue velvet lined interior.

The interior of the cover features the original gilding.

The base is weighted, as to be expected, and retains the original leatherette to the underside.

* In art and culture, a putto (plural: putti) is a chubby male child, usually nude and occasionally bearing wings.
