Description


This magnificent and large antique sterling silver jewellery box/casket has a rectangular form onto four feet.


The surface of this Victorian jewellery casket is embellished with exceptional chased scrolling leaf decoration, amongst interlacing strapwork style borders.


The chased decoration to each side incorporates an exceptional central bearded mask design.


The original hallmarked domed hinged cover is ornamented with further chased strapwork decoration accented with large leaf motifs and diaper pattern backgrounds.


The centre of the cover is embellished with an oval shaped cartouche displaying a contemporary engraved coat of arms displaying firstly a chevron between three cross-flory, secondly a griffin passant in chief with a chevron charged with three scallops between three flowers.


The swept portion of the cover is ornamented with a chased leaf decorated border.


The cover and base of the casket are encompassed with rounded borders accented with bands of chased rosette decoration.


The body and cover of this fine jewellery casket are fitted with a bespoke velvet interior.


This large box is compartmentalised with a bespoke red velvet fitment, which provides a large well bordered by integrated ring holder to one side.


The box is fitted with the original locking mechanism; the piece does not retain the key and is not functional.


This jewellery casket, crafted by the renowned London silversmith Robert Garrard II, is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.

Condition


This antique Victorian jewellery casket is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The chased decoration is all very sharp and the engraved heraldic markings are very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the casket are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this silver casket/jewellery box.
