Description

These magnificent sterling silver Victorian jugs have a moon flask shaped form onto an oval domed foot.

The body of each antique jug is embellished with magnificent chased leaf and stemmed floral spray designs amidst opposing scroll decoration, accented with leaf textures and shaped panels of matte background.

The chased ornamentation to each jug incorporates a scroll bordered shaped vacant cartouche to one side.

The waisted necks are encompassed with applied moulded girdles below further chased scroll and floral ornamentation to the upper portions and underside of the lips.

The upper rim of each jug is embellished with an applied moulded border.

These Victorian jugs are fitted with exceptional elongated cast S scroll handles embellished with chased decorated leaf designs to the upper and lower portions; this leaf ornamentation forms the thumbpiece of each handle.

The domed foot of each solid silver jug is encircled with further chased floral and scroll decoration.

One of these London made antique silver ewers/jugs was crafted by Richard Sibley I in 1849 and the other by Francis Boone Thomas of F B Thomas & Co in 1878; they both bear the identical retailer's mark Thomas, 153 New Bond ST and can be assumed the later piece was crafted to create a matching pair.

Such magnificent and large jugs are becoming increasingly difficult to locate, these examples are the finest of their type you could hope to acquire.

These antique jugs are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each jug are all very clear; the hallmarks are deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Victorian silverware.
