Sterling Silver Locking Tea Caddy - Antique George III (1782)

£3,250.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver locking tea caddy; an addition to our silver teaware collection

SKU C5420

This exceptional antique George III sterling silver locking tea caddy has an oval, serpentine shaped form.

The body of this Georgian silver tea caddy box is embellished with bands of bright cut engraved and wriggle work interlacing scrolling ornamentation, accented with stylised quatrefoil designs and scalloped borders to the upper and lower portions.

The tea caddy is further ornamented with a bright cut engraved oval cartouche to the anterior and posterior surfaces, each surmounted with an urn style design supporting leaf festoons.

One cartouche displays a contemporary engraved coat of arms and the other bears the contemporary engraved initials 'WM'.

This antique tea caddy retains the original hallmarked flush hinged cover; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.

The cover is embellished with further bright cut engraved undulating borders, reflecting the decoration to the body.

This impressive cover is surmounted with a cast sterling silver urn style finial, in the classic Adams style.

This 18th century tea caddy is fitted with a fully working lock and functional key.
