£5,445.00

A magnificent, fine and impressive antique George VI English sterling silver presentation bowl with sporting interest; an addition to our 1930's ornamental silverware collection

SKU C1317

This exceptional antique 1930s sterling silver bowl has a circular rounded form onto a shaped spreading foot.

The plain body of this impressive bowl is encircled with cast and applied domed medallions, each encompassed with a bud decorated border and illustrated with the sporting events: running, shot put, hurdles, long jump, high jump and tug of war*.

The bowl is fitted with two exceptional planished silver handles, ornamented with flat engraved interlacing Celtic style ornamentation to either side of each handpiece.

This sterling silver bowl is supported by a plain quatrefoil shaped spreading base with four tri-lobed feet.

This versatile bowl is a substantial size and if required could be used as a wine/bottle cooler.

* These sporting events can be considered as field and track sports, and have each been a part of the Olympic Games; this includes tug of war which was incorporated into the Olympics between 1900-1920, until the sport was considered to be distinct from athletics.
