This magnificent antique sterling silver cup has a circular bell shaped form to a bulbous shaped pedestal onto a circular domed spreading foot.

The body of this Victorian presentation piece is embellished with exceptional chased decorated floral sprays, accented with scrolling leaf designs and incorporating two large scroll bordered cartouches.

The cartouche to one side bears the contemporary bright cut engraved inscription 2nd Punjab Rifles Champion Cup for 1866, Value pound sign50, Won by Ensign A Litster and the other side depicts three male figures in official uniforms, all bearing rifles in a rural setting.

The upper rim is encompassed with an applied bead decorated border.

The bulbous pedestal has a lobed panelled form and is supported by an inverted bell shaped foot.

The foot is encircled with further applied bead decoration in addition to a shaped band of chased floral ornamenation, reflecting the sprays to the body.

The plateaued lower portion of the foot is encircled with a subtly undulating leaf textured border and bears the retailer's mark 'Charles Nephew & Co Calcutta' to the rim.

This Victorian silver trophy cup retains the original gilded interior.

If required, this antique presentation cup could be supplied with a bespoke ebonised black plinth with sterling silver plaque or band, suitable for a personal engraved inscription. This service would take approximately 6 weeks, the cup can be dispatched separately prior to completion.

Examples with such cultural interest incorporating a highly desirable scene are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

This antique sterling silver cup is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The chased and applied decoration is all very sharp, and the bright cut engraved inscription is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of Victorian silverware.
