A magnificent, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver quart tankard; an addition to our silver Georgian tankard collection

SKU A6122

This exceptional antique George III sterling silver quart* tankard has a plain baluster form onto a spreading circular foot.

The plain body of this Georgian tankard is embellished with an impressive bright cut engraved oval cartouche encompassed with a bead decorated border and bud festoon, tied to the upper portion with a large scrolling ribbon motif.

The cartouche displays the contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a stag's head couped holding in the mouth a branched acorn.

This magnificent Georgian tankard retains the original hinged hallmarked domed cover surmounted with a fine and impressive lobed thumbpiece and encompassed with applied bead ornamentation to the rim.

The hinge is decorated with pendant drop style ornamentation to the upper portion of the handle.

This antique tankard is fitted with an opposing scroll handle ornamented with an impressive volute scroll and pendant drop decorated terminal.

The circular spreading foot is encircled with further applied bead decoration.

Baluster style tankards incorporating bead ornamentation are scarce to the market and this is the finest example of its type you could hope to acquire.
