This exceptional antique George III sterling silver quart* tankard has a plain baluster form onto a spreading circular foot.

The body of this Georgian tankard is embellished with impressive later chased scrolling leaf ornamentation accented with floral sprays; as often the case with this type of piece, the chasing will have been implemented during the Victorian period.

The decoration to the tankard incorporates a large shaped vacant cartouche encompassed with a scroll and leaf decorated border.

This Georgian tankard retains the original hinged hallmarked domed cover surmounted with a fine and impressive pierced decorated scrolling thumbpiece and encompassed with further later chased floral and foliate decoration.

The rim of the cover and the circular spreading foot are each encircled with a stylised leaf decorated border.

The hinge is decorated with pendant drop style ornamentation to the upper portion of the handle.

This antique tankard is fitted with an opposing scroll handle ornamented with an impressive heart shaped decorated terminal.

The fully hallmarked cover has a gilded interior.

This exceptional example of Georgian silverware was crafted by the renowned and collectable London silversmith William Grundy.

This antique tankard is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The later chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the tankard and to the interior of the cover are all very clear; the maker's mark to the cover is partially worn but remains legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
