Sterling Silver Sauce Tureens with Ladles - Antique George III (1790)

£6,325.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George III English sterling silver sauce tureens with ladles; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection

SKU A8020

These exceptional antique George III sterling silver sauce tureens have a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval spreading pedestal foot to a collet rim.

The body of each tureen is encompassed with an applied girdle above a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms displaying an escutcheon party per pale of a cross engrailed and a lion rampant, encompassed with fabric swaps and suspended tassels.

The rim of each antique tureen is encompassed with an applied gadroon decorated border.

These impressive sterling silver Georgian tureens retain the original hallmarked push fit covers, surmounted with an impressive reed decorated handle enveloped with chased decorated leaf designs to the terminals.

The surface of each cover is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting an armoured knight armed mounted on a horse salient holding in his dexter hand a sword above his head.

Each tureen is fitted with two loop handles embellished with a chased decorated leaf design to the lower portion.

These sauce tureens are presented with fine and impressive associated London made, antique sterling silver sauce ladles crafted in the Hanoverian Rat Tail pattern by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd in 1939.

These exceptional antique sauce tureens have been crafted by the renowned London silversmith Robert Sharp to the same quality and standard as Paul Storr.

Maker: Robert Sharp

Date: 1790

These antique sauce tureens are a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The bright cut engraved crests are crisp and the applied ornamentation is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the foot of each tureen and the reverse of each ladle, in addition to part hallmarks to each cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
