Sterling Silver Seal-Top Spoon - Antique Charles I (1626)

This exceptional antique Charles I sterling silver spoon has a pear shaped bowl to a faceted stem.

The rounded bowl of this impressive seal top spoon* is plain and unembellished, apart from the feature assay mark.

The faceted stem terminates with a knopped circular seal matrix/die bearing the emblem of a demi-griffin with one wing extended.

This exceptional example of 17th century silverware features later gilding; the gilding could be removed upon request.

* Seal top spoons became popular in England in the later 16th and 17th centuries.

Date: 1626

This antique spoon is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The later gilding shows signs of wearing in keeping with age.

The British hallmarks, consisting of the maker's mark, lion passant and date letter struck to the reverse of the stem, in addition to the assay mark to the bowl are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this 1600s silver spoon.
