Description
This exceptional and unusual vintage Elizabeth II six piece silver tea and coffee service consists of a coffee pot, teapot, cream jug, sugar bowl, tea strainer and salver.
The pieces of this silver tea and coffee service have a large, plain rounded form.
The body of each piece is plain and unembellished.
The upper rims of the cream jug and sugar bowl are ornamented with an evoluted pierced decorated gilt border.
The coffee pot and teapot are fitted with impressive hallmarked hinged covers, surmounted with conical style finials conjoined to the lower portion with an overlaid silver gilt, pierced textured waisted panel, reflecting the ornamentation to the cream jug ang sugar bowl.
The teapot, coffee pot and cream jug are fitted with plain c scroll handles.
The tea strainer is fitted with a rounded handle featuring a plain shaped thumbpiece and ornamented with further evoluted rounded pierced gilt decoration.
The cream jug, sugar bowl and strainer bowl retain the original gilt interior.
This tea service retains the original hallmarked plain waisted sugar tongs, embellished with shaped pierced gilt decoration.
The pieces of this fine tea and coffee service are presented on a fine and impressive matching salver.
The surface of the salver is plain and unembellished.
The plain rounded border is encircled with an evoluted pierced decorated gilt band to the rim, identical to that of the tea strainer.
This exceptional vintage tea and coffee service was made by the London Silversmith Ian Calvert*.
This unusual set of silverware has artist selling rights.
* Calvert became a Freeman of the Company in 1959, working for Wakely and Wheeler before setting up the Silver Workshops Ltd. He taught at the Medway College and has been associated with Asprey and Garrard through Alex Styles and Tony Bedford.
