Description

This fine antique George V English sterling silver sovereign case has a subtly domed circular rounded form.

The surface of this piece is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved illustration and inscription 'Banff, Duff House'*.

The reverse surface of the sovereign case is plain and unembellished.

This case is fitted with a spring loaded catch to the bow, which when depressed releases the hinged cover revealing a hallmarked spring loaded sovereign holder embellished with engine turned decoration.

This impressive piece of antique silverware is fitted with a hallmarked ring loop attachment.

* Built on a fresh site in the early 18th century, Duff House is one of the grandest country homes in Scotland; located north of Aberdeen and east of Inverness. This building, commissioned by William Duff, Lord Braco, is considered an Adam masterpiece and can be considered, including its extensive grounds/estate, one of the most significant buildings in the North.

This antique sterling silver sovereign case is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The engraved and engine turned decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the interior of the cover have wear, in keeping with age, but remain legible.

The part hallmarks to the sprung sovereign receiver are very clear and the hallmarks to the ring loop attachment have wear in keeping with age and due to their location.
