Description

This exceptional antique Victorian spirit kettle in sterling silver has a rounded octagonal panelled form.

The surface to this antique spirit kettle is embellished with exceptional bright cut engraved palmette designs accented with suspended simplified leaf festoons incorporated into a quatrefoil motif to the nadir of each.

The decoration to the body incorporates a vacant cartouche to either side; the remaining 6 panels bear a scrolling leaf motif to the centre.

The waisted, panelled shoulders of the kettle are embellished with a stylised inverted scalloped border to the upper portion, all above conjoined leaf decorated arches and further scrolling leaf motifs.

This antique silver kettle is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover encircled with further bright cut engraved bordered leaf designs, in addition to a scalloped border reflecting that of the shoulders.

The cover is surmounted with the original sterling silver urn style finial.

This fine example of antique teaware is fitted with an impressive sterling silver opposing scrolling handle to either side of the central original and exceptional turned ivory handpiece; this handpiece indicates the high quality of the piece.

The kettle detaches from the original hallmarked sterling silver stand, supported by four impressive cast scrolling legs, each ornamented with leaf designs to the upper portion and octagonal hoof style foot.

The stand is further encompassed with bright cut engraved arched foliate motifs accented with a scalloped border.

The stand incorporates a plain scrolling frame which retains the hallmarked detachable spirit burner with integrated hinged snuffer; this associated burner was crafted by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd in 1903.

The spirit kettle stand is fitted with the original chains and security pegs.

This antique spirit kettle in sterling silver was crafted by the renowned silversmiths Goldsmiths' Alliance Ltd* and bears the retailer's mark 'Goldsmith Alliance Limited, Cornhill, London' to the underside in addition to the engraved initials 'MGM'.

* The maker's mark pertains to Joseph & Horace Savory of A B Savory & Sons, who traded as Goldsmiths Alliance Ltd and operated a showroom on Regent Street, London.
