Sterling Silver Sweetmeat Basket - Antique Georgian (1764)

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver sweetmeat basket; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection

SKU A6933

This exceptional antique George III sterling silver basket has a plain rounded oval form onto a swept foot.

The upper portion of this impressive example of Georgian silverware consists of wirework pales accented to the interior surface with applied and embossed fruiting vine ornamentation and grape clusters.

The lower portion of the rounded body is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of between wings two hands clasped together in a handshake.

The rim of the basket is encompassed with a plain applied undulating border.

This antique silver basket is fitted with a fine and impressive swing handle, embellished with barley twist terminals incorporating a central handpiece ornamented with further applied fruiting vine decoration.

This impressive basket retains an original invoice from the prior purchase in 1968; the calculation of historical inflation is the equivalent of pound sign3,853.62.

This impressive basket bears the same style and heraldic bearings as the basket A6921; they would sit very well together as a composite pair.
