This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver snuff box has a rectangular form with rounded corners.
The sides of the body and cover are encompassed with bands of tooled decoration.
The hinged hallmarked cover is embellished with exceptional bright cut engraved scrolling leaf ornamentation, incorporating a shaped vacant cartouche to the centre.
The cover is further ornamented with a cast and applied scrolling leaf decorated thumbpiece to the anterior edge.
The underside of this silver box features further bright cut engraved decoration reflecting the same design as the cover and integrating a fanned leaf design to the centre.
This antique silver snuff box opens to reveal the original gilded interior and contemporary engraved presentation inscription '3rd prize for Men not exceeding 11 1/2 Stone. This box was Wrestled for by Cumberland & Westmorland Men, residing in London, 9th April 1841. Won by Richd Margestson'.
