Description

This magnificent antique William IV sterling silver tea caddy has an oblong, bomb shaped form.

The anterior and posterior surfaces of the tea caddy are embellished with embossed decorated scrolling leaf and floral decoration, incorporating the contemporary bright cut engraved initial 'A' below a coronet.

The upper portion of this impressive tea caddy is fitted with an elevated plain rounded, rectangular rim and retains the original hallmarked push fit cover surmounted with an impressive cast and applied finial realistically modelled in the form of a Chinoiserie style structure.

The cover is further ornamented with chased decorated grassy terrain textures encompassed with a band of trellis and quatrefoil ornamentation.

The lower portion of this magnificent silver tea caddy is supported by an impressive cast and applied gallery incorporating ovoid bead ornamentation with suspended scrolling leaf decorated, accented with leaf decorated bracket style feet to each corner.

This magnificent William IV tea caddy is a highly desirable style and shape.

Condition

This antique 19th century tea caddy box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The embossed and chased decoration is all very sharp and the bright cut engraved ornamentation is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the caddy sleeve and part hallmarks to the rim of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
