Description


This fine and unusual Victorian English sterling silver teapot has an octagonal panelled form.


The upper and lower portions of this antique silver teapot are ornamented with bands of bright cut engraved undulating decoration.


Each bordered panel is embellished with bright cut engraved suspended laurel swag decoration to the upper and lower portions.


Either side of the body incorporates a bright cut engraved oval husk bordered cartouche, one remains vacant and the other displays a bright cut engraved crest of on a cap of maintenance purpure, a dexter arm armed from the shoulder resting on the elbow and holding in the hand a sceptre all proper*.


The teapot is fitted with a hallmarked flush hinged octagonal shaped cover embellished with a triangular segmented design to the surface; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.


The cover retains the original carved pear wood and silver finial, secured to the interior of the cover with a screw fitting wing nut.


This unusual silver teapot has been fitted with a replacement carved pear wood handle in keeping with the style of the Victorian era; this item has been priced accordingly.


The panelled spout is embellished to either side with subtle bright cut engraved festoon motifs.


This antique teapot is a fine and unusual example of its type.


* This crest pertains to the baronetcy family of Bruce of Airth and Stenhouse, Sterling. The strong probability is this crest is that of Sir William Cunningham Bruce, 9th Baronet of Airth and Stenhouse. Read this items heraldic identification report.

Condition


This antique teapot is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The interior of the teapot has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use.

The bright cut engraved decoration is crisp, in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the teapot and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this Victorian teapot.
