These fine antique George V sterling silver tefillin* have a plain rectangular rounded form.

The hallmarked hinged cover of the tefillin has a protruding compartment to accommodate the scripture parchment.

Either side of the hinge of each tefillah features a space through which a ribbon or rope may be threaded.

The upper portion of each cover is embellished with the contemporary engraved Hebrew initials שי ('shel yad' - arm-tefillin) and שר ('shel rosh' - head-tefillin)**.

* Tefillin, otherwise known as phylacteries, are more commonly crafted in black leather due to their daily use during morning prayer by traditional/observant Jews. Pairs of tefillin are worn to indicate the remembrance and sign of God's intervention during the Exodus from Egypt.

** One is placed above the forehead and the other is worn to the upper arm, whilst the straps/ribbons are wrapped down the arm and entwined around the hand/fingers.
