These exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver telescopic candlesticks have a plain cylindrical form onto a spreading circular base.

The baluster shaped capitals retain the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconces, with applied gadroon decorated borders to the rims.

The capitals are supported by plain cylindrical columns featuring a screw gadroon decorated knop to the upper portion.

The aforementioned knop indicates the location to which the pull-out mechanism for the telescopic column can be dispensed; this allows the height of each piece to be adjusted to the desirable size.

The filled base of each candlestick is embellished with further gadroon decoration and bears green baize to the underside.

These impressive Sheffield silver candlesticks were crafted by John Roberts, Samuel Mosley and John Settle of John Roberts & Co.

Such original telescopic silver candlesticks are becoming increasingly difficult to locate in working order.
