Description
This exceptional antique George V ten piece silver tea and coffee service consists of a spirit tea kettle, teapot, coffee pot, small/bachelor coffee pot, hot water jug, milk jug, cream jug, covered sugar bowl, sugar bowl and slop bowl.
The pieces of this silver tea service have a plain circular rounded baluster shaped form, in the Queen Anne style.
The body of each piece is plain and embellished with a fine and impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest of an antelope's head between two plumes.
The upper rim of each piece encompassed with an applied moulded border.
The coffee pots, teapot, hot water jug and spirit kettle are fitted with impressive hallmarked domed hinged covers ornamented with applied cut card decoration and surmounted with the original carved wood finial; the push fit cover to the sugar bowl had identical ornamentation to the hinged covers.
The antique silver spirit kettle is fitted with an exceptional hinged, sterling silver scrolling handle to either side of the central original turned wood handpiece.
The teapot, coffee pots and hot water jug are fitted with the original carved wood c shaped handles, each with a scrolling thumbpiece and fitted to plain sterling silver sockets to further impressive applied cut card decoration in junction with the body.
Each sugar bowl and the cream/milk jugs are fitted with sterling silver handles, reflecting the aforementioned style and form of the wooden handles.
The socket to each jug/pot is ornamented with further applied cut card decoration, accented with a rounded, baluster shaped design to the nadir.
The tea kettle is supported on the original circular hallmarked stand which incorporates a plain frame which accommodates the original, detachable, hallmarked spirit burner with integrated snuffer.
This impressive stand is supported by three impressive scrolling legs, surmounted with circular rounded urn designs.
The spirit kettle stand is fitted with the original chains and hallmarked security pegs.
The pieces of this exceptional silver tea service are presented on a matching electroplated silver tea tray.
The tray has a rectangular form with incurved shaped corners and is embellished with the aforementioned bright cut engraved crest to the centre.
The raised rounded border of the tray is encompassed with applied moulded decoration to the rim.
Either end of the tray is fitted with a shaped incurved sterling silver handle.
The underside of each piece of this luxury tea service bears the retailer's mark Crichton & Co Ltd, Made in England, in addition to the full hallmarks; the electroplated tray further features the marks 'Bond Street Plate'.
