This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver compact/trinket box has been realistically modelled in the form of a tortoise.

The body of the box is embellished with embossed decoration replicating the details of the tortoise's plastron (lower shell).

The ornamentation to the body incorporates an engraved and chased decorated head/tail, in addition to four applied feet.

The compact is fitted with a rounded thumbpiece to the edge of the anterior cover.

This antique compact opens to reveal the original integrated mirror and gilded compartment.

By virtue of its size this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions.

Date: 1908

This antique tortoise trinket box is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

There is some discolouration to the mirror, in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the interior of the trinket box/compact are very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
