Description

This exceptional antique George III sterling silver tray with feet has an oval form.

The surface of this silver tray is encompassed with an exceptional band of bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decoration accented with octafoil shaped floral designs, all on a matte background.

The aforementioned decoration is flanked with bright cut engraved scalloped designs and simplified leaf decorated borders.

The centre of the tray is embellished with an exceptional swag and tassel decorated cartouche displaying a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms surrounded by a garter depicting the motto 'Deus Robur Meum' - God is my strength*.

The coat of arms was surmounted with the crest of a savage affrontée, wreathed about the head and loins, holding over his dexter shoulder a club and in his sinister hand a wolf's head erased.

The raised rounded border of the tray is encompassed with applied reed decoration to the rim.

The tray is fitted with a fine pair of twin sterling silver reed decorated handles featuring leaf decoration to the terminals.

This antique silver tray is supported by four impressive cast and applied bracket style feet accented with further reed decoration.

* The heraldry and motto pertain to the Wood family
