These exceptional antique George III sterling silver candle snuffers / wick trimmers have a hinged scissor action.

The anterior surface of these impressive candle wick trimmer scissors are each embellished with tooled decoration to the trifurcating stems and upper pivoting plateau.

The two angular fingerpieces are ornamented with an applied moulded border and surmount plain baluster shaped legs.

The angular, domed portion of the silver wick trimmer is further ornamented with bands of tooled decoration.

The stationary blade of each pair of scissors is embellished with a simplified leaf design in addition to a continuation of tooled decoration.

The posterior surface of each pair of trimmers is plain and unembellished.

These exceptional Georgian trimmers are each accompanied by the original sterling silver snuffer tray; these trays have an oval incurved shaped form.

The surface of the tray is plain and unembellished with applied gadroon decoration to the raised rounded borders.

Antique wick trimmers with matching trays are becoming increasingly difficult to locate; matching pairs of such are very rare to the market.

These antique silver candle snuffers and trays are an exceptional gauge of silver for their type, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the tray, in addition to the lion passant marks to the hinged blades and interior of the trimming compartment of the scissors are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
