Sterling Silver Wine Cooler - Antique Victorian

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver wine/champagne cooler; an addition to our presentation silverware collection

SKU A7802

This exceptional antique sterling silver wine cooler has a circular plain rounded bell shaped form to a circular shaped spreading foot.

The surface of this impressive Victorian wine cooler is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms depicting on a fess sable three mullets, surmounted with the crest of a stag's head*.

The upper rim of the body and rim of the foot are encircled with exceptional cast and applied scrolling leaf borders, each accented with a variety of floral and foliate motifs.

This impressive and large cooler is fitted with two exceptional cast sterling silver handles, ornamented with leaf ornamentation to the ribbed handpiece, in addition to a large bifurcating scrolling upper terminal in junction with the body.

This exceptional Victorian wine cooler retains the original hallmarked detachable liner.

* This coat of arms pertains to the family Lyster. The Lysters, of Rowton Castle were said to have sprung from the Lysters, of Gisborne, in Craven in the County of Yorkshire and were seated at Rowton since at least 1451. Given the date of manufacture of this wine cooler it may be presumed to have been acquired by Henry Lyster (born 1798 died 12 December 1863) who was the fourteenth and last Lyster, of Rowton Castle having inherited the estate from his father, Richard Lyster (died 1819). Read this items heraldic identification report.
