Sterling Silver and 9 ct Yellow Gold Cigar / Cigarette Box by Walker & Hall - Art Deco - Antique George V (1935)

Description

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver cigar/cigarette box has a plain rectangular form.

The surface of this impressive box is embellished with impressive engine turned decoration admist a plain silver border.

The body is further ornamented with an applied hallmarked 9ct gold iconic Art Deco sunburst design emanating from each lower corner.

The impressive hallmarked hinged cover is fitted with an exceptional applied geometric shaped tiered 9 carat yellow gold thumbpiece in the Art Deco style.

The interior of the cover bears the original gilding in addition to the contemporary engraved initials and dated inscription 'HJS, 1919-1937'.

The body of this exceptional antique cigar box is fitted with the original cedar wood lining and adjustable divider; this box can be refitted with a bespoke velvet jewellery box fitment upon request.

This antique cigar box has a weighted base and retains the original covering to the underside and bears the retailer's mark 'Walker & Hall, Sheffield'.

NOTE: The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the cover; a sign of quality when boxes have an unlined, solid silver cover.
