This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver cigarette case has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners.

This rare antique cigarette case has a subtly curved form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets.

The anterior cover is embellished with an exceptional enamel scene depicting the portrait of Edward VII encircled by a light blue royal garter* all below an Imperial coronet, all on a vibrant yellow enamel incurved shaped background.

The garter bears the notable motto 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' - 'Shame upon him who thinks evil upon it'**.

The rounded sides and posterior cover of this cigarette case are plain and unembellished.

This case is fitted with a rounded thumbpiece and a gemset ruby coloured push fit catch, which when released reveals two hinged compartments.

This impressive example of Edwardian silverware retains the original gilt interior.

* The garter is a reference to The Order of the Garter, a belt and motto for one of the most senior orders of chivalry which was inspired by Author and the Knights of the Round Table. The order was established by Edward III but added to the Royal Arms by King Henry VIII.

** This garter and motto can also be found surrounding the shield of the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom.

This antique cigarette case is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

There is some minor surface wear to the silver in keeping with age; this does not detract from the aesthetically pleasing appearance of the case.

The vibrant enamel decoration is in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the interior of the anterior cover and part hallmarks to the interior of the base are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this impressive example of antique Edwardian silverware.
