The anterior surface is embellished with fine and impressive enamel designs depicting a phrygian cap* above two shaped escutcheons accented with a key to one and a pipe to the other, to either side of four stylised playing cards.

The lower portion of the design has a central escutcheon incorporating a corkscrew above the wording ‘Liberté - Liberty’.

There is an integrated serrated panel/match striker to the underside.

The reverse side of the case is plain and unembellished.

* The phrygian cap, otherwise known as the liberty cap, is a soft red cap which was taken as a sign of liberty during the French Revolution.

This antique vesta case is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

There are some blemishes to the enamel, which remains in excellent condition in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim, and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this Edwardian silverware.
