Description

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver fish flatware set for twelve persons consists of twelve fish knives and twelve fish forks.

The blade of the Victorian knives and forks both have a broad incurved shaped form.

The surface of the drop of each fork and the knife blades are embellished with impressive bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decoration accented with a paralleling border.

The posterior surface of these boxed fish knives and forks are plain and embellished with a paralleling simple border to the incurved edges.

Each piece of this Victorian fish service is fitted with a fine and impressive, large carved mother of pearl handle.

The upper portion of each handle is fitted with the original hallmarked sterling silver ferrule embellished with impressive embossed fluted ornamentation, all in a swirl design.

This service is fitted to the exceptional fine and impressive, original hinged mahogany presentation box with a lift out tray and a satin and velvet lined interior; the lift out tray is a highly desirable feature.

The cover of the box is embellished with a veneered walnut panel incorporating a shield shaped vacant brass cartouche to the centre.

Such flatware services with large and impressive mother of pearl handles are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

The impressive box has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker

Full hallmarks struck to the anterior surface of each knife and reverse of each fork are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
