Description

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and mother of pearl fish service for twelve persons consists of twelve fish knives and twelve fish forks.

The impressive plain sabre style knife blades have a broad incurved shaped form, and the forks have three tines with a rounded, shaped cylindrical shaft.

Each piece of this fish cutlery set is fitted with the original and impressive sterling silver ribbed handle ornamented with panels of mother of pearl.

The handles incorporate a fine and impressive embossed sterling silver scrolling lobed design to each terminal.

The hallmarked ferrule to each piece is encircled with bands of embossed decoration.

Each piece of this mother of pearl cutlery service is fitted to the fine and impressive original hinged oak wood canteen box with a lift up lid and lift out tray.

This impressive canteen box is ornamented with brass fittings, including a vacant shield shaped cartouche and escutcheon; the cartouche bears the contemporary engraved inscription 'J.W from F.J.M, 1902'.

The interior of this impressive presentation box bears two inset panels to the rim displaying the maker/retailer's mark 'Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd' and '112, Regent Street, London, W'.

The satin lining to the interior of the presentation box cover incorporates a further retailer's mark below a simplified coat of arms.

This is an exceptional set with unusual and desirable handles.
