This exceptional vintage sterling silver and glass set consists of a claret jug and six matching goblets.
This impressive sterling silver and cut glass claret jug has circular swept, tapering form.
The upper portion of the glass body is fitted with the original hallmarked sterling silver mount and cast domed hinged cover.
The cover is ornamented with an impressive convex Design style geometric trellis pattern; the ornamentation reflects the formation of the classic pineapple finial.
The cover is further ornamented with an impressive sterling silver circular tapering finial, featuring a broad upper plateau.
This vintage claret jug is fitted with an exceptional cast sterling silver C shaped handle with a plain incurved upper socket and further trellis ornamentation to the handpiece, identical to that of the cover.
The tapering body of the jug is ornamented with cut glass ornamentation, in addition to a star cut motif to the underside.
Each goblet has a rounded bell shaped form onto a circular pedestal and circular domed foot.
The cast stem of each goblet is embellished with Design style decoration reflecting that of the jug's cover and handle.
The goblets retain the original gilt interior.
The underside of each goblet bears the retailer's mark 'English Silver, George Tarratt'.
These exceptional examples of vintage silverware were made by the renowned artistic and imaginative silversmith Anthony Elson in 1974; these items will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the claret jug is struck with the date letter 't' and the six goblets bear 's'.
