[email protected]John Langlands was the founding member of the silversmithing Langlands family, who for sixty years were the largest silverplate producers in Newcastle. Langland was apprentice to Isaac Cookson, and upon Cooksons death in 1754 Langland partnered with John Goodrick and took over the business. Sadly, Goodrick died three years later and from 1778 to 1795 John went into partnership with John Robertson I. The death of John Langlands saw his wife Margaret running the business until the partnership was dissolved in 1795.
Upon this change John Robertson I created a partnership with David Darling and this lasted for only fifteen months. After this Robertson worked on his own with a new registered mark, until his death in 1801. Ann Robertson, his widow, continued the business under her name and worked till she retired in 1811, transferring the business to her nephew John Robertson II.
