This exceptional antique Indian silver tea caddy has a cylindrical, milk churn form.
The surface of the box is plain and encompassed with bands of applied moulded decoration.
The silver tea caddy is fitted with a plain domed hinged cover ornamented with the contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a bull's head cabossed, horned, between two flags, staved at the First, all below the motto 'Hold Fast'*.
The anterior surface of the cover features the hinged catch which secures to the applied moulded ornamentation to the box's shoulders.
This churn style antique tea caddy was crafted by Grish Chunder Dutt of Bhowanipore; Dutt was thought to be the finest silversmith in Calcutta, of his time.
