A magnificent, fine and impressive antique 19th century American silver claret jug; part of our wine and drinks related silverware collection

This magnificent antique 19th century American silver claret jug has baluster form onto a plain circular spreading foot.


The body of this antique jug is embellished with exceptional chased decoration, displaying a Chinoiserie style landscape and dwellings.


The decoration includes large scrolling leaf and floral designs, in addition to a shaped vacant cartouche to the anterior side.


The neck and spout of the jug are ornamented with chased scrolling leaf decoration, emanating from a plain applied border to the rim.


This magnificent antique claret jug is fitted with an impressive opposing scrolling handle, accented with an impressive leaf decorated lower socket, in junction with the body.


The vessel of the jug is supported by an impressive knopped circular pedestal foot ornamented with further chased leaf decoration, in a swirl design.

This antique 19th century claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

The maker's mark and 11OZ mark to the collet rim of the foot are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
