£6,950.00

A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Edwardian English sterling silver gallery tea tray; an addition to our silver tray collection

SKU C7958

This magnificent antique Edwardian sterling silver tray has a rectangular cut-cornered shaped form.

The surface of this sterling silver serving tray is embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved cartouche, reflecting the shape of the tray in an incurved festoon design, incorporating wrigglework decorated ribbon bow designs.

The cartouche features an impressive crest depicting a demi-lion holding in the dexter paw a dagger, above the motto 'Mors aut vita decora' - Death or a life of honour.

The surface of this Edwardian silver gallery tray is further embellished with the contemporary engraved date 'May 23 1906'.

The exceptional deep gallery border of this antique silver tray is ornamented with pierced decorated vertical pale and festoon decoration, accented with urn and quatrefoil designs.

The undulating rim of the gallery is further embellished with an applied gadroon decorated border.

This antique silver tray is fitted with a pair of oval inset handles, to either end of the gallery border.

The tray is supported by eight impressive cast silver bracket style feet, ornamented with stylised foliate decoration.

Such exceptional large trays with deep borders are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

How to clean antique silver

Date: 1905

This antique Edwardian silver gallery tray is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cast and applied decoration are very sharp and the engraved ornamentation is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the tray are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique silver tray.
