The surface of this impressive and unusual antique cigar box is plain and embellished with the bright cut engraved crest of an eagle soaring, above the motto 'Ardenter prosequor alis' - On wings I ardently pursue / Eagerly do I pursue in my winged course.
This example of antique silverware is fitted with a hallmarked push fit solid silver cover, which allows access to the unusual secondary hinged opening.
The interior of this exceptional Victorian cigar box retains the original gilding.
