Price    £1,095.00

A fine antique Georgian English sterling silver sweetmeat basket; part of our silverware collection

Description

This antique Georgian sterling silver sweetmeat basket has an oval navette form onto a colet foot.

The body of the basket is embellished with a band of pierced decorated vertical pales.

The body of the basket is also ornamented with an upper and lower band of pierced decoration creating a linked scroll wave pattern, further embellished with a semicircle pattern of bright cut engraved decoration.

Four pierced decorated foliate motifs accent each side of the basket.

There is a band of beaded decoration to the rim the basket.

This antique basket is fitted with a bead decorated swing handle.

To the well of the basket there is a bright cut engraved crest depicting a wolf's head out of a ducal coronet.

This George III basket is a fine example of its type.

Condition

This antique basket is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition in keeping with age.

The bright cut engraved decoration and bright cut engraved crest are very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the basket are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
