An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian English sterling silver heart-shaped jewellery box; an addition to our diverse Victorian boxes collection

This exceptional and rare antique sterling silver box has a heart shaped form.


The surface of this unusual silver jewellery box is embellished with pierced and embossed scrolling leaf decoration, accented with floral motifs.


This antique sterling silver box is fitted with a heart-shaped hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with further pieced and embossed scrolling leaf decoration, incorporating bird motifs and crescent moon designs to the lower point.


The decoration to the cover incorporates a central vacant heart shaped cartouche, flanked with two putti*.


The cover of this antique sterling silver heart shaped jewellery/trinket box opens to reveal the original satin and velvet lined interior.


The underside of the box features the original velvet lining.


By virtue of its size this unusual and versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions.


This exceptional box, crafted by the renowned silversmiths William Comyns & Sons, is the finest example of its type you could hope to acquire.


* In art and culture, a putto (plural: putti) is a chubby male child, usually nude and occasionally bearing wings.

This unusual and large silver jewellery box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The original lining to the interior has natural wear in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the box are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply, for its type, due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
