Sterling Silver Four Light Candelabrum Centrepiece - Antique George III

£7,950.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver four light candelabrum centrepiece; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection

SKU C7703

This exceptional antique George III English sterling silver candelabrum has a circular rounded form.

This antique silver centrepiece candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit arms.

The three sterling silver scrolling arms are ornamented with enveloping scrolling leaf designs, accented with spiralling floral rosette designs to the underside.

The cylindrical capitals are fitted with plain sconces, encompassed with cast bead decoration to the rims.

Each capital surmounts a circular drip pan, ornamented with further bead decoration to the rims.

The elevated central capital reflects that of the labra and surmounts a leaf decorated boss.

This Georgian silver candelabrum can be used as an imposing candlestick once the push fit arms (labra) are detached.

The impressive tapering, rounded column is embellished with cast and embossed scrolling leaf and pale decoration, a leaf decorated shaped knop to the lower portion.

The swept base is ornamented with further cast bead decoration to a band of fluted decoration, all above alternating leaf motifs to the rounded border.

The upper plateau of the base is embellished with the contemporary bright cut engraved initials 'BW', the crest of a unicorn rampant and coat of arms depicting firstly a fesse compony counte-compony, between three griffins' heads erased, and secondly barry of six in chief three roundels*.

This exceptional antique candelabrum has a filled base and is fitted with baize to the underside.

This exceptional candelabrum, crafted by the renowned London silversmith Benjamin Smith II, is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.

* The first portion of the coat of arms, and crest pertain to the Wrightson family.

Maker: Benjamin Smith II

Date: 1814

This antique candelabrum is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cast and embossed decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp.

The hallmarks struck to the surface of the base and sleeve of the central boss, in addition to the part hallmarks to each detachable component are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this exceptional Georgian sterling silver candelabrum with 3 arms.
