The body of this sterling silver communion cup is encircled with impressive flat engraved decoration incorporating the Latin biblical scripture 'Calicem salutaris accipiam et nomen Domini invocabo' - I will take the chalice of salvation; and I will call upon the name of the Lord (Psalm 115 verse 4).
The panelled pedestal is embellished with a flat engraved decorated knop, to a swept hexafoil foot ornamented with flat engraved stylised interlacing leaf designs on a matte background.
The paten has a circular form to a plain circular base; this paten can also be used to form a cover.
The circular well of the diskos/paten is ornamented with a stylised illustration of Jesus Christ wearing a crown of thorns, amidst a sun burst design.
The paten is encompassed with an impressive flat engraved leaf decorated border.
The interior of the chalice and surface of the paten bear the original gilding; the gilding has worn with age in a sympathetic fashion.
