George Unite & Sons

In 1825, George Unite and James Hilliard founded a business together, operating from Birmingham. Upon the partnership ending in 1845, the business was continued by George Unite.

From 1854, this established company was active at 65 Caroline Street, Birmingham and in London at Thavies Inn.

The firm operated under George Unite until the mid-1860s and changed to George Unite & Sons around 1865. After the death of George Richard Unite in 1896, the partnership of Edward Willoughby Unite and William Oliver Unite was dissolved within a year.

The operations at 50 Newhall Hill, Birmingham were continued by the electroplate manufacturer William Henry Lyde, and in 1928 the business was converted into a limited liability company as George Unite Sons & Lyde Ltd.

Throughout its history this maker has been featured within the Birmingham, London, Chester and Sheffield Assay Office registers.

In addition to a wide range of silverware, the firm also advertised gold and silver brooches and bracelets available for purchase.
