Masonic jewellery dates back to the Middle Ages, a time where it was common to stamp documents in wax to authentic. The Medieval times were not just a time of jousting and jesters, they were also a time of Masonic rings, made up of precious metal, gems and enamels, these rings were worn exclusively by the elite, including Royalty, officials and noblemen.
In the 18th century, Masonic jewellery came full circle as members of the Freemasonry began to wear rings which were symbolic of their loyalty to their brotherhood.
Rings are the most recognisable jewellery piece of a Freemason. Masonic rings often feature symbols like a square and compass, often embellished with precious stones and made up of precious metals like gold or silver.
It certainly isn’t rare for masonic rings to feature detailed engravings. Some masonic designs are representations of the tools used to ‘create and measure’ to remind Freemason members to ‘strive for perfection’. Some jewellery pieces often include the letter ‘G’, standing for God, ‘Grand Architect of the Universe’ and geometry, to symbolise the concept of immortality. Another symbol often used on these pieces is the ‘all-seeing eye’ symbolising the belief of a ‘divine being’ watching over us.
