Chrysoberyl is a natural gemstone with a beautiful yellow/green colour. It ranges from a murky translucent colour to a clear transparent tone. Cat’s eye chrysoberyl is a strain of chrysoberyl, scientifically referred to as cymophane. This name finds its roots in the Greek words for ‘wave’ and ‘appearance’, referring to the hazy quality that cat’s eye chrysoberyl has that affects the surface of the stone. The cat’s eye name is deserved, as these stones have a milky white streak down the centre resembling a cat’s pupil.
