The bow brooch has long been a beloved motif in jewellery, representing love, unity, and sophistication. Its origins trace back to the 17th century, when intricate diamond-encrusted Séverin bows were popular among European nobility. During the Rococo period, the design evolved into more delicate, ribbon-inspired shapes, frequently adorned with pearls and girandole drops.
Throughout the Victorian era, bow brooches emerged as cherished symbols, meticulously designed in gold and embellished with diamonds or enamel. The subsequent Belle Époque and Edwardian periods enhanced the bow design with elaborate, lace-inspired platinum settings, reflecting the romantic opulence of 18th-century French court jewellery. The Art Deco movement introduced a more geometric approach, whereas the Retro period of the 1940s and 1950s featured striking, sculptural bows crafted from yellow gold and adorned with vivid gemstones.
