The Hanoverian pattern, which emerged around 1710, evolved from the late 17th-century Trefid or Dog Nose pattern, characterised by its tri-lobed terminal. The Hanoverian design features rounded handle terminals, distinguishing it from its predecessor. Named after the House of Hanover Dynasty (reigning during the 18th century under George I, II, and III), this pattern also includes crests on the reverse side due to its use in the French manner of table setting. As the pattern developed, the central ridge on the anterior surface diminished, leading to a pip at the handle terminal and a more egg-shaped bowl for each spoon.
