Yes, most antique rings can be resized, however, some bear intricate designs to the feature setting and shoulders which may be more challenging to resize. Due to the nature of the setting of an eternity ring, no alterations are available for this style of ring.
As with all jewellery, regular maintenance of antique rings is essential. To clean an antique ring it is advised that the piece should be cleaned gently with a soft toothbrush and some mild soap, then dried and polished with a soft jewellery cloth. Whilst a jewellery may be able to use an ultrasonic cleaner and subtly stronger chemicals, it is not advised that this is done at home to protect the integrity of the gemstone and setting. Additional care can be taken during storage, by placing your ring in a soft pouch or a separate compartment in a jewellery box to prevent scratches.
The vast majority of our rings and jewellery are antique and vintage pieces. We do have the occasional contemporary ring which will have been added to our inventory as they are exceptional examples of design and works of art in their own right. Alternatively, a contemporary setting can be used to display antique gemstones either via a replica setting modelled in the form of a period example, or a more contemporary mount typically offering a typically broader shank and plain design.
We offer a layaway scheme as an option for a payment plan. The process is comprised of an agreed non-refundable deposit and regular monthly payment instalments; the piece will be dispatched upon completion of the balance amount.
Rates and timescales are agreed on an item-by-item basis, through personal communication with Andrew Campbell either by email [email protected] or phone +44 (0) 191 240 2645
We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee for all items, provided they are returned in their original condition and packaging. If a ring has been sized or altered prior to dispatch, an exchange or credit note will be offered. Please refer to our return policy page for detailed information.
Due to the wide range of pieces, we have in our inventory and the variations in the world-wide hallmarking requirements, a complete history cannot always be disclosed. However, each listing on our site includes detailed descriptions and historical context, researched and determined by our team of experts.
For external enquiries we can recommend looking into any visible hallmarks and contacting a local auction house; they will be able to examine the piece in depth and potentially be able to provide you with a verbal valuation for insurance purposes.
We are not currently purchasing items of silverware and jewellery from the general public. We would suggest you contact a local auction house or consider a selling platform such as eBay.
Whilst many will declare an item is antique once it is over 100 years old, here are AC Silver we class any item made before 1940 as antique, allowing for a moderate divide to the end of the iconic Art Deco period.
Articles in our inventory crafted between 1940 and 1995 are classed as vintage, incorporating the everchanging styles from the 1950s to the retro pieces.
Due to the nature of the hallmarking regulations across the world, many articles of antique jewellery are not hallmarked; many incorporate only a metal purity mark or a maker's stamp; however, this was not compulsory, and in many countries today is still the case.
In light of this we enable our customers to have peace of mind by independently testing each piece with an Niton XL2 Analyzer to determine the precious metal content.
The majority of our rings can be resized to suit your needs, however, there are particular styles such as eternity rings which are unable to be adjusted. We are always open to discuss any needs or alternations you may require and we can relay the best way forward for any purchase.
