This exceptional antique German silver flagon has a globular body onto a circular spreading foot.
The surface of this German silver flagon is embellished with exceptional chased decoration depicting figures drinking, conversing and supporting each other in an outdoor tavern setting; this ornamentation was influenced by Flemish/Dutch genre artwork, such as pieces crafted in the late 17th century by David Teniers II.
The cylindrical neck of the flagon incorporates further chased tavern decoration with an applied moulded border to the upper rim.
This impressive silver flagon retains the original subtly domed hinged cover ornamented with an exceptional chased decorated coat of arms style design.
The cover is surmounted with a fine and impressive birurcating thumbpiece embellished with chased decorated strapwork.
This silver flagon is fitted with an impressive rounded, opposing scroll handle.
