Description

The pieces of this magnificent, antique Victorian sterling silver straight* flatware service for twelve persons have been crafted in the King's shape.

The anterior and posterior surfaces of each handle are enveloped with scrolling leaf ornamentation.

The decoration to each handle terminal incorporates a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a lion's gamb surmounted with a hawk.

The heel and shoulders of each piece are embellished with further scrolling leaf decoration.

This silver cutlery service for 12 persons consists of 88 pieces:

Basic Service:
12 Table knives
12 Table forks
12 Table spoons
12 Dessert knives
12 Dessert forks
12 Dessert spoons
12 Teaspoons
Additional Pieces:
Pair of serving spoons
Pair of sauce ladles

The fundamental pieces of this service have been crafted by the collectable, renowned silversmith and flatware maker George Adams of Chawner & Co in 1850, apart from the table and dessert knives, which are replacements**.

This flatware service can be purchased without the plain knives if so desired, due to the rarity of the pattern identical knives are not available but an alternative King's shape pattern can be arranged; for further information please contact Andrew Campbell directly at enquiries@acsilver.co.uk.

These straight antique Victorian services are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

These impressive examples of antique silverware are supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduces tarnishing.

* "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.

** Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time.

Date: 1850

Condition

This antique silver cutlery set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

The ornamentation to each handle is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver, as to be expected of this maker.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Victorian silverware.
